First of all, a huge thanks to Diana for contacting the majority of these bands.

Bands for which we have received explicit permission:
KDTU, SCI, KW, YMSB, Brother's Past, Raq, Motet, and DMB (and related side projects).

Bands the have explicity denied permission:
Phish (and all related side projects) and John Cowan.

Bands that have been contacted but haven't issued a response (Diana, if I missed some, please chime in):
MMW, Robert Randolph, Phil Lesh, Robert Walter, Widespread Panic, moe., Gov't Mule, and STS9.

Bands that should be contacted but haven't (in that there are shows waiting to be imported):
Wilco, ABB, Bela Fleck, Ben Folds, Blues Traveler, Disco Biscuits, Donna the Buffalo, Eddie From Ohio, Galactic, Steve Kimock, New Deal, and more.

Let's hold off on contacts with the Dead for now, that will come in time.

Did the Pat McGee Band give you permission yet? Last time I talked to their representative, they were down for it and in the proccess of getting in touch with you.

I haven't heard from them. Diana?

If you could have them contact jon@archive.org with an official "ok" that would be fabulous! There are some PMB shows waiting in the "bay"

Thanks for the legwork, Nate! I just heard from Lynne McGee, the policy section is now updated with their "yes" and actual shows to follow when Jon gets a chance to make them public. :)

These were on Jon's to-contact:
Wilco, ABB, Bela Fleck, Ben Folds, Blues Traveler, Disco Biscuits, Donna the Buffalo, Eddie From Ohio, Galactic, Steve, Kimock, New Deal

I just sent something to every one of these one way or the other. However, the Ben Folds address I had bounced. Anyone have a good contact point for him?

BTW many are actively touring right now. It will no doubt be some time until we hear from a number of bands, even if they were favorably inclined.

A couple updates:
Eddie from Ohio just gave their permission. Show(s) pending. :)

Allman Brothers Band contact point (lana at their website) bounced with a full mailbox. Anyone have a better contact for them?

Galactic declined permission to be archived here (aw), but is still fine with the general idea of internet trading (yay). Their policy page is now updated here.

Forum: etree Subject: Excellent! Plus a Question

Thanks for the reply!

Couple things:
1) What is the preferred method of contacting bands? Has Diana (thanks!) taken it upon herself to coordinate our efforts? Should individual patrons of the archive feel free to contact bands?

2) Blues Traveler can be contacted at blackcatz@earthlink.net... the person who reads the mail is Gina Z. They'll be game for this, I'm sure.

3) Is there anything else that patrons can do to help the cause? I'm eager to do my part... let me know if/how it is needed.

"1) What is the preferred method of contacting bands? Has Diana (thanks!) taken it upon herself to coordinate our efforts?"
I fell into it- I knew of a band I was really interested in getting in, worked out how to ask, then asked a few more. ;)

"Should individual patrons of the archive feel free to contact bands?"
I'll leave that to Jon to address. On the plus side, extra volunteers share the load. On the minus side, random people asking the wrong way might "queer the deal".

"2) Blues Traveler can be contacted"
Thanks so much! I just fired off a note. :)

Adding to Jon's...
Bands for which we have received explicit permission:
I understand Jon just heard from Uncle Sammy, woohoo!

Bands the have explicity denied permission:
...John Cowan- and presumably his related stuff like New Grass Revival. Also, Jonell Mosser- they're both "not right now". I got in touch with the archivist for both artists, Dirk Cota. Cowan, Mosser and/or their management are still new to the whole Internet music idea. However, John Cowan for instance is trade-friendly and Dirk added a John Cowan Band section to the shn info db recently. (Thanks, Dirk!)

Bands that have been contacted but haven't issued a response (Diana, if I missed some, please chime in):
Also, Radiators, and Agents of Good Roots (via a web form, don't know if that will work out). I did not contact PMB myself as far as I remember, perhaps someone else did?

Bands that should be contacted but haven't (in that there are shows waiting to be imported):
Part of the hold up (besides finite/limited time commitment) is not having a solid contact point. If people know the best place to email, tipoffs are welcome!

Also, folks should place an actual copy of a band's taping/trading policy and/or link to it on the site, especially if sending uploads. There are some random shows sitting in a pending area and there's no indication whether or not the artists are even OK with trading.
